Allan Holm Photography
Allan Holm was formerly a senior photographer
and creative director with Armstrong World Industries, Inc. In
that capacity he produced photography for use in the company’s
national ads, brochures & literature.
Leaving Armstrong in 1993, Allan established his own photographic
studio and producing architectural, food, fashion and product
photography for a wide range of business clients, advertising
agencies and magazines. In addition, he also provides wedding
photography, whereby he captures the special moments that comprise
the day with a combination of traditional, photojournalistic and
“soft touch” photography. Portraiture is another area
in which Allan specializes.
Allan’s credentials include a Photographic Craftsman Degree
(1979) and a Master of Photography Degree (1985). While working
at the Eastman Kodak Research Labs, he earned his BS (magna cum
laude) in Professional Photography from the Rochester Institute
of Technology (RIT).
Allan is one of only two Army combat photographers whose work
has appeared on the cover of Life magazine. In addition, his photographs
have appeared in such magazines as National Geographic, Ladies’
Home Journal, Brides, Good Housekeeping, Vogue, Harpers Bazaar
and VFW. House Beautiful has utilized his skills for its special-interest
publications, as did Good Housekeeping and Bob Vila Magazine.
Locally, he has been the cover and features photographer for Lancaster
County magazine since 1989.
Allan also had the honor of being selected by Pennsylvania First
Lady Michele Ridge to photograph the Governor’s Residence
for a book that featured each of the country’s 50 governors’
residences. (Proceeds from the book benefited historic preservation.)
His photograph of the residence’s foyer was ultimately chosen
for the book’s cover. One of Allan’s photographs from
a calendar series won Best of Show in the Impact for Applied Photography
International Competition that was sponsored by Eastman Kodak
Company and Nikon, Inc.
Along with his wide-ranging experience behind the camera –
from combat photography in Vietnam to ad agency work – Allan
has been an active educator in the field of photography. He served
for four years as an instructor at the U.S. Army Signal School;
taught at the Winona School of Professional Photography for seven
consecutive years; and has presented classes at the New England
Institute of Professional Photography and the MidAmerica School
of Photography as well as presenting programs at regional, state
and national PPA conventions, as well as in San Juan, Puerto Rico
and Guadalajara, Mexico. Additionally, Allan has served on the
board of advisors of the Antonelli School of Photography.
