Allan Holm Photography

Allan Holm was formerly a senior photographer and creative director with Armstrong World Industries, Inc. In that capacity he produced photography for use in the company’s national ads, brochures & literature.

Leaving Armstrong in 1993, Allan established his own photographic studio and producing architectural, food, fashion and product photography for a wide range of business clients, advertising agencies and magazines. In addition, he also provides wedding photography, whereby he captures the special moments that comprise the day with a combination of traditional, photojournalistic and “soft touch” photography. Portraiture is another area in which Allan specializes.

Allan’s credentials include a Photographic Craftsman Degree (1979) and a Master of Photography Degree (1985). While working at the Eastman Kodak Research Labs, he earned his BS (magna cum laude) in Professional Photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).

Allan is one of only two Army combat photographers whose work has appeared on the cover of Life magazine. In addition, his photographs have appeared in such magazines as National Geographic, Ladies’ Home Journal, Brides, Good Housekeeping, Vogue, Harpers Bazaar and VFW. House Beautiful has utilized his skills for its special-interest publications, as did Good Housekeeping and Bob Vila Magazine. Locally, he has been the cover and features photographer for Lancaster County magazine since 1989.
Allan also had the honor of being selected by Pennsylvania First Lady Michele Ridge to photograph the Governor’s Residence for a book that featured each of the country’s 50 governors’ residences. (Proceeds from the book benefited historic preservation.) His photograph of the residence’s foyer was ultimately chosen for the book’s cover. One of Allan’s photographs from a calendar series won Best of Show in the Impact for Applied Photography International Competition that was sponsored by Eastman Kodak Company and Nikon, Inc.

Along with his wide-ranging experience behind the camera – from combat photography in Vietnam to ad agency work – Allan has been an active educator in the field of photography. He served for four years as an instructor at the U.S. Army Signal School; taught at the Winona School of Professional Photography for seven consecutive years; and has presented classes at the New England Institute of Professional Photography and the MidAmerica School of Photography as well as presenting programs at regional, state and national PPA conventions, as well as in San Juan, Puerto Rico and Guadalajara, Mexico. Additionally, Allan has served on the board of advisors of the Antonelli School of Photography.
